Congratulations to our new officers

 At our October Forum. AIA San Mateo County elected six new officers for the 2012 board of directors.

Vice President: Terrence Murphey
Terrence Murphey received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2004 and earned his Architect’s license in 2007. He lives in Redwood City, where he works with Hayes Group Architects. Terrence has been a board member of the San Mateo County AIA, since 2010. His hobbies include sketching and rowing.

Secretary: John Lucchesi
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, John attended College of San Mateo and later Washington State University for his undergraduate studies in Architecture after obtaining his Graduate Degree at UC Berkeley.
John participated in post graduate studies in Siena, worked in Finland briefly, then returned to work for his former professor Donlyn Lyndon in Berkeley and then settled into the SF firm of Rosekrans & Broder. A few years after becoming licensed John worked in private practice with Architect-spouse Pirkko for 12 years until joining he firm of John Matthews Architects in 1997-98 where he is currently a project architect.  In his local community of South San Francisco, John served as a member of the Design Review Board and the Planning Commission.  In 1998, at Jack's recommendation, John also transferred from AIASF to AIASMC.
As an AIASMC member, John has since been involved with the Chapter Newsletter, Design Awards Program, Scholarship Program, served as co-team leader with Torin Knorr in the first Menlo Park Design Charrette, with Bob Blunk in the San Mateo Central Park Charrette and served as Chapter President in 2006.  Since 1986 John has also contributed his efforts to the College of San Mateo as an adjunct professor in architecture.  John & Pirkko are still married and have two children, Paolo, 29 & Laura, 27.

Associate Director: Monica Landaverde
Monica is very excited with the opportunity to participate as the Chapter Associate Director.  As an Architecture student in El Salvador she did volunteer work, including consulting on the restoration of the National Palace in San Salvador and design and relocation of an existing public marketplace and Pot Earthquake Damage statistic gathering.  This will be her first volunteer position as a foreign born professional in the United States.  She is honored for the opportunity to represent our San Mateo Associates.

Director: Heather Young
Heather is a partner of Fergus Garber Young Architects where she heads up FGY's commercial projects. In addition to her commercial focus, she also leads several of the firms' residential projects that have larger sustainability goals including the LEED Platinum certified Bryant Street Residence in Palo Alto  Heather is a licensed Architect in Connecticut, California, Florida and Georgia and a member of the AIA and NCARB.  She is a LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional and member of the Northern California Chapter of the US Green Building Council where she is a former Steering Committee member and Events Committee Co-Chair.
Heather is the current vice-chair of the Palo Alto Architectural Review Board and represents the AIA as a Commissioner for the California Architects Board and the NAAB (National Architects Accreditation Board) visiting schools of architecture nationally and internationally. Heather received her Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University and her Master of Architecture from Yale University.

Director: Eric Holm
Eric is a native of San Mateo. He graduated from Aragon High School and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he received both an Architecture Degree and a Photography Degree.  He is currently an Associate with Bartos Architecture.  Eric recently passed the Architectural Licensing exam and his License should be in the mail!  Eric and his wife Laura recently purchased a new home in San Mateo.
Eric served the Chapter last year as the Associate Director and he is now looking forward to transitioning to a director position.  He will focus on Emerging Professionals in the early stages of their careers.

Director Eric Chiu
Originally from Hong Kong, Eric immigrated to the United States in 1990.  After High School he studied at the College of San Mateo and transfered to the University of California at Berkeley.  He graduated with a B.A. in Architecture and Minor in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1996.
Currently Eric works with Hamilton+Aitken inn San Francisco as a project architect specializing in K-12 educational projects, commercial and tenant improvements.  Eric was recently licensed in California.
He hopes to use his people-oriented personality and broad experience in different areas of architectural design to contribute to the community and to the AIASMC in a position the board of directors.
