ELIGIBILITY

All Architects and Firms practicing within the United States are eligible to submit projects located within San Mateo County.

All Licensed Architects and Firms practicing or residing in San Mateo County are eligible to submit projects located within or outside the chapter area.  If a firm has multiple offices, only projects executed by the chapter area office are eligible.

2018 JURORS

Anne Fougeron, FAIA, principal and founder of Fougeron Architecture in San Francisco, is an award-winning architect recognized for her diverse portfolio of projects, serving institutional, commercial, health-care and residential clients. Whether transforming existing buildings or creating entirely new environments, her thoughtful designs integrate rule-challenging technology and techniques to address the aspirations, opportunities and challenges that come with each commission. With nearly 30 years of practice, Anne’s work has garnered international recognition.

Christopher A. Roach AIA, IIDA, LEED AP is a San Francisco based architect and urbanist with over 20 years of experience in the profession and a deep commitment to both the craft and the intellectual ambition of architecture.  He is founder and principal of Studio VARA, an award-winning San Francisco-based practice working at the intersection of architecture and urbanism. Over the course of his career, Christopher has engaged with a wide range of projects types, from custom residences and affordable housing to commercial offices and academic institutions.  He holds a Bachelor of Architecture with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin, and Master of Architecture in Urban Design with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.  Christopher received several awards for his work at Harvard, including the Urban Design Thesis Prize and the Gerald M. McCue Medal.

Christopher is currently an adjunct professor of architecture at California College of the Arts, and co-director of CCA’s Urban Works Agency, where he conducts research and design studios focused on infrastructure, housing, and density.  He has written for numerous publications including the Harvard Design Magazine, On Site, and Bracket, and has co-produced exhibitions such as Urbanism from Within, The City & the City: Housing the next 100,000, and the symposium series Domestic Affairs.

Peter W. Pfau, FAIA, LEED AP, founding Principal of Pfau Long Architecture, Ltd. in San Francisco, has earned a reputation as a modernist who balances conceptual rigor with a love for building craft.  Peter established a passion for design and construction through training in the fine arts, and later, working as a woodworker, carpenter and contractor. Peter was a founding principal of Holt Hinshaw Pfau Jones in 1985, and was involved in many of that firm’s award winning projects including the Astronauts Memorial at Kennedy Space Center. In 1991, Peter established Pfau Architecture, Ltd., an atelier-sized design firm in San Francisco. In 2008, the firm changed its name to Pfau Long Architecture, Ltd., with the elevation of Dwight Long as Principal.  The firm works on a range of projects including exposition and museum spaces,  educational facilities, office buildings, restaurants, places of worship and single family and multi-unit housing.  Evident in the firm’s work is an underlying commitment to thoughtful design, environmental stewardship, building craft and details, and passion for the emotional and experiential qualities of buildings.  Peter’s recent work includes designing the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal in a Joint Venture with KMD Architects, the SPUR Urban Center, the Magnes Museum of Jewish Art and Life in Berkeley, UCSF Department of Psychiatry Building in Mission Bay and design architects for Golden State Warriors office towers.
