Jan 27 | Fellowship with Field Architecture

Mark your calendar for January 27th and join our virtual Fellowship with Jess Field from Field Architecture.

Field Architecture was awarded the Honor Award in Residential Architecture at the AIASMC 2020 Design Awards. Join us as Jess shares their approach to design, construction, challenges and solutions.

Field philosophy is that architecture is part of a conversation with nature that allows humans to return to being “a part” of nature, as opposed to “apart” from it.

Field recognizes that architecture sits at the intersection of art and science, function and form. Their approach is one that weaves creative insight with technical expertise to create buildings that are thoughtful, inspiring, sustainable, and authentic. They leverage technology to guide a rigorous and dynamic approach to design and construction, partnering with dedicated project teams to deliver considered and original solutions. Their process is guided by the tenets of rich material sensibility, holistic ecological thinking, and integrity of craft. FIELD believes the character of the architecture becomes an assimilation of these principles – the whole greater than the sum, and each project elegantly suited to its place.

Jess Field AIA, LEED AP

Jess was born in Johannesburg, where his father, Stan, introduced him to architecture at a young age. Stan would sit Jess on top of large-scale plans on the dining table, where they would pour over drawings together. Stan’s stories of hut construction in Swaziland, and Lou Kahn’s teachings at Penn formed Jess’ first impressions of architecture. Sketching from an early age, Jess developed a fluency in drawing and draftsmanship, later to be complemented by an equal level of skill and artistry with digital tools.  Jess’ approach to construction and design solutions are both artistic and practical, aiming to celebrate the natural opportunities offered by each site, together with clients’ specific needs. His designs have been characterized by rigorous attention to detail, sensuous expression of materials and craftsmanship, and a seamless integration of indoors and outdoors.
