California’s housing crisis is impacting communities across the state, and developing ADUs are one way to contribute toward a solution.

The website features welcoming and easily accessible information about the regulations, financing, design, construction, and use options of ADUs to inspire and excite homeowners. The site recommends working with a team of qualified building professionals to help navigate the process, and reinforces that an AIA Architect has the training, experience, and talent to partner with the homeowner to solve design challenges, explore options, and manage their budget toward a successful ADU.

AIA CA encourages the California Components to offer Plus1House.org as a resource for their communities and to consider hosting a public event that informs homeowners about ADUs and the value of working with an architect to complete one. An event toolkit, complete with sample communications, marketing graphics, and event materials, will be made available to assist components in hosting a local Plus1House public outreach event. In the meantime, AIA CA is seeking volunteers to participate in the Technical Network and to send ADU case studies to be featured on the site. If you or anyone with whom you are familiar wishes to offer their assistance, please contact Director of Programs, Katie Dahl.

California’s housing crisis is impacting communities across the state, and developing ADUs are one way to contribute toward a solution. Plus1House.org provides a path for architects to contribute toward a housing solution while also promoting the relevance and value of the profession to the public.
